Story

We are inspired by our city – its scale and variety, and yet the unique sense of intimate connection. Seems like a dichotomy, but New Yorkers get it, and visitors come from all over the world to experience it. Our venues strive to capture that essence in each neighborhood, and have become a destination for creative, contemporary cuisine, great drinks, warm environment, and good humor.

The original Vbar&café opened with one employee on Sullivan Street in 2000 as a café by day and wine bar by night. Over the past 15 years, it has become a Greenwich Village staple coffee house/living room/makeshift office/bar to so many. Vbar St. Marks opened in 2010, offering a casual, Italian-inspired cuisine, a full bar, and wrap-around windows with a close view on one of the busiest corners in the East Village. Vbar Seaport, our new, Mediterranean seafood-centric addition to the family, recently opened in the spring of 2015 in one of the oldest landmark buildings at the heart of the South Street Seaport. As we continue to grow, we love to take on new challenges, but remain fully committed to a simple concept: great hospitality.

Vbar&Co. is about people: our staff is our biggest asset, and is what makes our venues so personal; we support many outstanding nonprofits in our communities; our cuisine is mostly comprised of all-natural ingredients from farmers and local suppliers; many of our wines and beers are micro-produced; and our “target clientele" are simply happy customers who keep coming back – parents treating themselves to a coffee every morning after dropping their kids off to school, visitors in search of authentic NYC hospitality, the business lunch crowd, neighbors reading the paper and sipping a glass of red, friends exchanging highlights of their day over dinner, a birthday party, a much needed cocktail after work…we thank all of them for allowing us to be one of their favorite spots in NYC.
