Vbar&café opened in 2000 on Sullivan Street, in the heart of Greenwich Village, one of NYC's quintessential neighborhoods with such strong community identity and unique history. The “V" honors its predecessor's name, a small Italian café called Caffé Valdino, its neighborhood, the Village, and its main ingredient, Vino. Over the years, Vbar&café has become a favorite coffeehouse/living room/makeshift office/bar to so many in our community. Come 5:30pm everyday since its inception, “this intimate but airy gem" (NY Mag) undergoes a magical albeit crowded transition from café to wine & beer bar: lights go down on unsuspecting readers, candles are lit on the communal tables, pastry cases emptied, classical music goes off and the rock-loaded iTunes turns on.
At Vbar&café, we are committed to offering warm, fun hospitality, and to serving only products that we like to enjoy ourselves – based as much as possible on natural ingredients from local suppliers and other micro-producers. Vbar&café also offers our original, world-renowned Karma Board, a mini-library, featuring a rather eclectic book collection (the Birthday Book being one of our hits); great music selection in the background – befriend Vbar Staff on Facebook to access our playlists on Spotify.

The original Vbar is our quintessential community-based establishment. Over the course of the past 15 years, adopted New Yorkers from all over the world have made Vbar&Café their home, their makeshift office (mailbox functionality included), their dining room, and their favorite bar. Couples have met here on their first date, and continue to come on a regular basis- now with their kids in tow... The Vbar Karma Board best represents that sense of community, allowing customers to leave each other a drink. The original board, first featured at this location, is still a regulars' favorite. It was even the subject of a sociology research project at NYU. We'll skip the study results, but cheers to the thousands of drinks that have exchanged hands through it!
At the Table
Chalkboards at Vbar&café display a great array of café and bar treats: pastries, quiches and cookies (Ceci Cela Patisserie), house made charcuterie platters, all-natural chip and mixed nuts, and daily soups. We serve artisanal wood-roasted Anèri espresso and flavored coffees, Gillies drip coffee, and a variety of Harney & Sons tea blends.
At The Bar
Vbar&café offers a rotating selection of over thirty wines from around the world, many of them organic and by the glass; and about forty beers, including an excellent selection of microbrews. And of course, do not forget to try our rotating mystery draft...
